ACHIEVEMENTS

Haruo is one of the staunchest supporters of AIESEC as during the last 30 years, there has not been any moment in which he has not supported AIESEC; he has been a motivational speaker in many AIESEC events, has written papers, and through the corporations in which he has worked, has always provided useful material to the various local committees and the National Committee.

During his participation in the National Committee of AIESEC in México, he  travelled all over México and succeeded in bringing in at least 5 new local committees. He is a founding member of the Office of the Coordinator for Latin America.

He was chair for The First Latin American Congress in Medellin, Colombia 1971. He also attended the Social Role of Management, a conference organized by the Pan American Council of Social Organizations in 1971 and 1972.

He was hired in 1974 to become the Far East Delegate for the Mexican National Shipping line (Transportación   Marítima Mexicana –TMM-), based in Tokyo until 1980, then transferred to London where he headed the same company European Office until 1982 and returned to the Head Office to become the Worldwide Group Chief Financial Officer. In 1989, he started his own shipping company, Grupo Naviero Kano (GNK) - www.gnkmex.com.mx.

GNK became the first Mexican shipping company to obtain the ISO 9000 certifi cation. In 1996 to 1998 he was also the Chairman of the largest video stores company in México (Videovisa).

He is a Permanent Member of the AIESEC in México Alumni Board; he mentors the National Committee almost on a day by day basis. One of his biggest achievements in AIESEC has been to provide continuity to the development of

AIESEC in México by providing permanent office space and facilities for AIESEC, as well as meals and some utilities.

Apart from the thankful notes he receives from time to time, AIESEC in México also awarded him the “Alumnus Destacado” (Outstanding Alumnus) in the Mexican Alumni Newsletter, December 2003.

Mr. Haruo Kano, has shown that AIESEC can truly make a difference, that we can really change our future and contribute to our community afterwards, and his motto is “You will have truly succeeded in life if you have helped others in building solid institutions like AIESEC for the benefit of future generations.”
